If you are charged with a serious offence you may be asked by police to sign a bail undertaking or taken before a magistrate. If you are given bail it means that you will not be kept in custody until your charges are heard by the court. If you breach your bail you will be charged with a further offence and penalised. You may also be taken into cusody.
