Michelle Makela

Michelle Makela is an admitted solicitor and the legal authority behind the guides published on this website. Admitted to practice in 2006, Michelle has more than 15 years' experience across criminal law, family law, civil litigation and estate planning.

She holds a Juris Doctor, a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and a Master of Criminology. Over her career she has appeared in courts and tribunals at every level — from state and federal industrial tribunals through to the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Federal Circuit and Family Court, and the High Court of Australia. In 2016 she was nominated for the Queensland Woman Lawyer of the Year Award.
