Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology. He completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice Management at the University of Queensland and is admitted as a Lawyer in both the Queensland and New South Wales Supreme Courts. He is also admitted to the High Court of Australia.
His extensive experience, skills and knowledge of criminal law has been recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales’ Accredited Specialist program. As a NSW Criminal Law Accredited Specialist, Mitchell is recognised as one of a handful of legal experts with the highest order of experience and practical skills in the state.
Mitchell began his career in criminal law prior to finishing university and has since held a number of roles. Early in his career, he volunteered with the Prisoners’ Legal Service, and founded and managed an association aimed at providing Legal Aid with duty solicitors. In addition, he volunteered with a community organisation providing aid to drug addicts and became involved in lobbying the government for drug law reform.
Mitchell is highly respected in his field and has presented papers at numerous conferences on many aspects of the criminal law, including issues of violence, advocacy, and computer crimes.
Mitchell is a dedicated and passionate advocate for criminal justice and champions for those affected by and subject to the criminal law. He has represented clients in the most complex and serious of cases, achieving – at times unlikely – success for his clients. He is hard working and thorough, and ensures he has considered all aspects of his clients’ situation prior to giving advice so as to ensure the best possible outcome. He has now returned to Queensland to share his dedication and experience. In addition to NSW and Queensland, Mitchell has also represented clients in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania.
